The Soraighe selection, which was created by the Bennati family at the end of the Eighties, is for this winery a constant search for excellence. The objective was to give a well-defined identity to every single bottle, so that customers do not ask for “a good red wine from Verona” anymore, but for Ireos, namely a red wine produced after a particular “recipe” of the Bennati family. Every single step of the production process, from the soil, to the vineyard, to the vinificaiton, is carefully checked; this is the basis on which the family wanted to build this ambitious project which began, as it is often the case, with some perplexities. Here is what Giorgio Bennati (person in charge of production) says about that…
“Gadum… Libet… Cerasum… the choice of the names, so peculiar – like our wines, indeed – was only one of the numerous questions that characterised the beginning of a demanding path. As a matter of fact, high quality wines require one to accept low yields per hectare, to grow mature vineyards, to pay great attention to the details, and to use very high and modern technology.
Already a few years after the birth of the first Soraighe wine, that is, our Ripasso della Valpolicella, we ourselves were amazed by the outcomes of our project. This satisfaction was a confirmation for us that, through our high quality philosophy, we were going the right way. I think this can happen thanks to the balance we create between our identity and the identity of the wine we deal with, namely a wine which was born and grew in our territory. As hoped, today our customers do not ask for a Soave classic but for Libet (…made of grapes of Soave classic); from our Gadum one should not expect only a good Cabernet sauvignon, rather an elegant wine, where this noble vine goes hand by hand with the complexity of the French barrique. Clearly, we expect Cerasum simply to play its part: its name is amarone. Beyond the technicalities, I am particularly proud of the comment of one of our customers who said after tasting it that it only had one defect: too little of it is produced”.
To all this, add the experience of the Bennati family – dating back to the 1920s – and the feeling that has always been the leading force of all great dreams: the enthusiasm.
