In the far 1800 Mr. Giovanni Perini who was mayor of Borca di Cadore- near Cortina- and his brothers, the engineer Aristide and the lawyer Giuliano bought some hectares of land on the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene and in the land of Treviso. They also bought the beautiful Villa Veneta of the XVIII century they still live in. Later, Ernesto, son of Giovanni Perini, received the lands of the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene and started manufacturing the silk. At the same time the family began with the production and distribution (also for private use) of wine which in origin was put in big oak barrel in the warehouse of the present barchessa.
Between 60s and 70s Ernesto Perini thanks to the help of the son Giovanni and of his wife Bernadette Dorigo weeded the old vineyards and substituted them with new ones (mostly Prosecco) giving life to the Farm Giovanni Perini. At the beginning of the 70s Prosecco was produced with the method “Surli” or bottle fermentation. Thanks to the great success of the wine, Giovanni and his wife Bernadette understood the potentialities of Prosecco exalting the land and the tradition.
Some years later took place the purchase of the modern method “Charmat” technology – among the first in the area. This consists in a pressing system, autoclaves for the fermentation of carbon dioxide and a bottling system. A great contribution to the growth of the farm was given by the entrance of the daughter Paola and the son Alberto.
Lately it was Alberto who evaluated the evolution and distribution of the market, brought the farm to face the challenges of the international competitors and distributed the Prosecco DOCG of Conegliano Valdobbiadene in many foreign countries. Recently, the Perini family has decided to renew the whole supply chain with the purchase of a new pressing and bottling system; the very modern technology will enable the production to reach excellent levels, thus placing San Giovanni among the most prestigious productive situations in Treviso.
