The Estate of Montecucco is located in the enchanting Maremma Toscana, in the Province of Grosseto, right in the heart of the DOC Montecucco region – which is named after it; it is an area in Tuscany that includes in a handful of kilometres a lot of wonderful little villages, where the hills slope gently towards the Tyrrhenian Sea. In the clear days, the wonderful Isle of Montecristo can be admired from here.
According to some documents of the time, the property already existed in the 12th century, when the two sons of Corbulino di Montecucco donated it to the Camaldolese monks. Even two Popes lived here.
Today, the Estate of Montecucco extends over 700 hectares between vineyards, olive groves, golden extents of wheat fields, and maquis; the hilly and well-drained soil, together with the good climatic conditions, favours the production of high-quality, well-structured wines which have been awarded various recognitions in the main Italian oenological guides.
HOSPITALITY
At the Estate of Montecucco our guests are hosted in comfortable apartments and can taste the typical wines and dishes of the Maremma region in the Farm Holiday Centre; moreover, they can go for a walk in the vineyards, relax next to the swimming pool, visit the small village and the ancient church. It is a unique experience to discover the genuineness of the products of the Estate.
CULTURE
At the Estate, making very good wine and olive oil is nearly an artistic skill, and it is not by chance that art is a common topic here, especially in Summer. As a matter of fact, classical music concerts and open-air theatre are only some of the cultural events sponsored by the farm, which collaborates with many institutions, including the Montecucco Foundation.
ORGANIC PRODUCTS
The well-being of the land, the respect for the territory and its characteristics, the importance of growing mainly native grapes are all objectives of primary importance for the Estate of Montecucco; as a result, thanks to this code of conduct all the products of the Estate have been classified as certified organic!
